Reflection #9

It's official--my mom is on Facebook. I'm so proud of her. :)

It's exciting for me because if you knew my mom, you'd know that she's a complete country-bumpkin. Technology is not something she spends a lot of time learning. But now that she's joined Facebook, I get to teach her all about it! I imagine this is how a student feels when they are the ones teaching the teacher how to use the newest "big thing."

It makes me reflect on the fact that there is so much technology to learn, and that it can be very overwhelming at first. When I'm a teacher though, I hope I'll be like my mom when it comes to technology--she is jumping in and giving it a shot and letting the younger "experts" teach her as she goes.

Christina,
it's official, I am on facebook!- I thought this day would never come, but it did- I thought I had no need of it but after being asked by whole bunch of people in a short period of time if I had facebook, I began thinking about getting one. However, what did the trick was when a person who organizes the trip to Israel emailed us saying he created a facebook page for our trip-- it was then that I figured I had to do it! :)

but I’m kind of surprised why Microsoft word does not recognize facebook yet.. just a thought!

Great reflection regarding role reversal and a good example of why we should all be learners and teachers. Your mom is probably amazed at all you know and can do on a computer, but by guiding her through this new discovery you have enabled her to reach higher than she thought she could and hopefully she is enjoying the view and contact with family and friends.
