Improving Instruction with Interactive Whiteboards

"Improving Instruction with Interactive Whiteboards" D. Schaffhauser (2008)

In this article I have learned that students become fully engaged when technology is brought into the classroom, particularly with the Smartboard. Teachers are impressed with how much it can do, and how great of a teacher’s aide it is. The Smartboard includes lesson activities based on testing standards and educational games. Some teachers believe schools shouldn’t be investing money in textbooks now that that information can be found online and presented on the Smartboard.

One drawback to the Smartboard is the cost. Not only do you need the board, but you also have to buy a computer and a projector. The author of this article, however, cuts costs by eliminating a monitor for the computer, and covers wires on the floor to obviate the need to rewire the classroom.
